Art Drysdale is likely Canada’s longest-and best-known horticulturist. He is a graduate of the Niagara Parks Commission Botanical Garden and School of Horticulture. For the past four decades he has been writing, and doing both radio and television broadcasts with practical garden hints.

His gardening programme on AM740, Toronto (often with the largest radio gardening audience in Canada), is broadcast live from Nanaimo, B.C. He also broadcasts radio gardening vignettes daily on both AM740 and on south-western Ontario’s on EASY 101. Art also hosts weekly TV gardening vignettes on Shaw TV’s Vancouver Island programme ‘The Daily’.

In 1979 Art served as assistant to the chief horticulturist at Les Floralies internationale de Montréal, and has judged and/or spoken at the Toronto, Chicago and Philadelphia flower shows for many decades. He has also been a guest speaker at horticultural meetings in England, Holland, Switzerland, Australia, South Africa and aboard cruise ships.

Art is the only Canadian to have been president of the 1000+ member US-based Garden Writers Association. His book Gardening Off The Ground remains popular as a basic information source for growing hardy container plants in cold climates.

In his spare time, Art volunteers as Chairman of the Vancouver Island Flower & Garden Festival Society, which stages the annual Victoria International Flower & Garden Festival each July.
