Amazing Thailand Gardens & Cambodia’s Angkor Wat
(Including Chiang Mai Flower Festival)

This morning, we experienced an exhilarating boat ride along the bustling Chao Phraya River and the quiet Klongs (canals) in a long-tail boat. Be taken back in time to a more traditional way of life, far removed from Bangkok’s modern skyscrapers. The weather as you can see was perfect – we were so lucky.

Visit Wat Arun, the magnificent temple of Dawn with its 79-meter pagoda or ‘prang’, built in the Khmer style. Remember me saying earlier that we were here during Chinese New Year? Well, we were sure lucky as just look at the celebrations taking place here. It was wonderful! We totally had fun…

From here went to the market…and not just any market. Here you will see not only flowers, fruits and vegetables, but you will also see the different kinds of floral offerings made for the temples, how they are made and what significance they hold. Truly an education and what a way to see the flowers of Thailand! Don’t be afraid to try the many sweets they make, small packages that cost next to nothing and give you a real idea of what they enjoy..delicious! While here I also tried ‘sausages’. Small rice and noodle formed sausages grilled and served with pickled cabbage, cucumber and ginger…what a treat! Note the tour guests hanging around and waiting for their food.

Roses – 50 to a package and only 2 US dollars…be still my heart! Take some back to your room to enjoy this memory. From the flower market we entered the veggie market…wow, what a sight. Look at how fresh and perfect it all is.

This evening, we enjoyed a Thai dinner at Supatra River House Restaurant. Formally the home of Khunying Supatra Singholaga, a leading advocate of women’s rights, this beautiful two-storey traditional Thai house is located on the banks of the Chao Phraya River. The décor is contemporary, blending perfectly with the traditional architecture with spectacular views of the River, Grand Palace and Wat Arun.
