February 6, Day 05: Cuenca – Guayaquil
After breakfast we enjoyed a City tour around the colonial old town of Cuenca, a UN Heritage Site.

We then had lunch in a typical Cuencan Restaurant before we started our journey up to the Cajas National Park where we will reach the highest point of our journey at 4000 meters (13’123 ft) above sea level. After the pass the road winds down through misty valleys until we reached the Pacific plain. After driving along large banana plantations we reach Guayaquil at sea level.

Right across the street from our hotel there is a lovely little park with iguanas.
