Ecuador’s Flowering Plants—Blooming
Beauty Beyond Belief
February 2-9th, 2008
It’s rare that exclusive flower growers will
even allow strangers onto their plantations, and it’s even rarer still that
they will show you blooms and blossoms in development and produced for the
mass market. On this tour we got an insider’s look at the flower industry,
from the ground up and I know that all left with a better impression of what
this industry is all about. Often not mentioned are the good things that
they do for those who work for them by way of health care, housing and other
items vital to a healthy life and work environment.
‘Ecuador - it was a wonderful
tour!! We thought it was a great privilege to go behind the scenes
with the three growers. They were all such fine human beings, and,
apparently, are doing business the way it should be done.’

We enjoyed many highlights - a visit to one of the world’s leading Rose
plantations, near Quito. We saw the vast differences in rose types and the
extensive range of varieties and types of colors available. We visited South
America’s largest Orchid plantation in Cuenca, and a true plantation--
Ecuador’s largest producer of tropical flowers, outside of Guayaquil. So
much in a short time…it only gave us a glimpse of what Ecuador has to offer…
February 1 – Pre tour day at Otavalo Market!
All the group decided that they wanted to come in a day early so that we
could go to the Otavalo Market before the tour officially started…we had a
lot of fun here and everyone came out with goodies…the market was about one
and a half hours out of Quito so we have beautiful countryside to see along
the way. Lunch was in a local restaurant and was it good!
