China Tour 2013
April 10th – 23rd, 2013

April 9th Arrived into Beijing about 20 minutes behind schedule. Surprised to see how clear it was, I guess they had some winds that blew some of the clearer air this way. Once off the plane it was through customs and immigration then we boarded the train to take us to the baggage claim area. Quite a distance away. Bags picked up, out the door to meet the person picking me up and less than an hour I was in my hotel room. The city is spring like, although I think the leaves are later. Lots of forsythia in bloom and every now and again there were patches of magnolia trees loaded with their white and pink flowers. The Four Points by Sheraton Beijing is a very nice hotel located in the Haidan District. Check in was efficient and I also changed some money at the front desk. No problems changing money at the hotels as they have the same rates all over and do not charge service fees.
My room is very nice, large and spacious with one of those bathrooms that has a glass wall so you can see into the bedroom from the tub as you soak. It has blinds that come down if you need privacy but since I was the only one in it, they stayed up. Big king bed with plenty of light for reading. Lovely bed to sleep in. This does not always happen in China as Chinese people like to sleep on rock hard beds. Here you will have a very good sleep. Big desk to work at with good lighting, t.v., bar fridge, pot that boils and then keeps water ready for tea, machine to make coffee using coffee pods, water, tea, safe to hold netbooks, iron and board, bathrobe and slippers. There is also a small sofa and coffee table to sit at. In the bathroom you have a separate rainfall shower and tub and of course all the amenities.
April 10th Was my free time to get myself organized, catch up on a nap and then meet with the ground handler to go over everything as best we could. Thankfully the air quality here in Beijing was not going to be an issue after all.

The winds blew in and with that took away so much of the bad air and replaced it with lovely fresh air. The skies are blue…what a treat. Breakfast is super here with a huge buffet with both American and Chinese. I tend to eat Chinese breakfast and loved the variety. The rest of the group arrived today and with just one couple having a delayed flight all was well.
