April 7th I flew from Panama to Newark to overnight at the Hilton
Newark Airport Hotel. I like this hotel very much for its convenience, about
5 minutes away from Terminal 4 where all the hotel shuttles are and with a
great shuttle that runs 24/7 and breakfast that starts at 6:30 it is the
perfect stopover hotel. Arrived to see lots of yellow and white daffodils in
bloom and the buds on the trees getting ready to pop open for their spring
show. It was just recently renovated and so far they have six floors
completed with the executive rooms, deluxe rooms and some of the standard
rooms. I am staying on one of the executive rooms on the 12th floor which is
the highest floor.
The room is lovely and spacious and well thought out. A comfy inviting bed
dressed in white is in stark contrast to the rest of the room with the warm
tones of the wood that looks like bamboo and steel blue/navy carpeting.
Vibrant pictures adorn the beige covered walls. The wall paper has a sparkly
sheen to it. The desk area is huge with plugins right where you want them,
not on the floor under the desk! There is a swing light that you can move as
well for the lighting you want. The chair next to the bed is really cool
with a wide side arm for setting down magazines or coffee and there is
another side table that would hold your in room service tray with your meal.
The tv swings to the angle you are at providing a good view at the chair, at
the desk or in bed. They did some neat things with the renovation that are
truly unique. Ticker tape drapes, …..
The bathroom is of a decent size but what most impressed me was the
lighting…right around the mirror. So smart and women will love it as you
will now be able to see when you put your make up on. I cannot begin to say
how many times I have stayed in various hotels and could hardly see anything
with the bad lighting. Well done! I am impressed and don’t think that
because this hotel is near the airport that you would hear the planes…never.
So nice and quiet a sleep is to be had here.
Room service is prompt and quality is great. Always had great room service
here.
Pet peeves? The luggage rack in most hotels is never big enough to hold
large suitcases so you end up having to put them on the floor, but this new
one here is not even wide enough to hold my 22 inch suitcase. It is more of
a seat and less of a luggage rack. There is no wastebasket by the coffee or
desk area.
Niceties…bottles of water, Italian coffee single servings and English
breakfast tea bags, plus real half and half single servings. Peter Thomas
Roth bath accessories (really nice body lotion). Great reading lamps beside
the bed too!
Thanks to Andreas Goree for making my stay so enjoyable. He and his staff
really do care about their guests.
April 8th after a great buffet breakfast with everything from hot oatmeal to
biscuits and gravy I was on my way. I have to say it was a special treat to
have fresh raspberries! My flight to Beijing, China will take 13 hours and
50 minutes….
