In your zone, it's likely all types of clematis will die back to ground level in winter. Do you remember the name of it? Had it survived other winters? It's been a cool spring in many areas so I wouldn't give up hope. If you need to replace it, you can plant a new one at any time as long as you allow enough time for the roots to become established before winter. Make sure it's hardy for your area. Lots of nurseries sell plants that are not hardy, so you have to know your stuff.
