Subject: when to plant out clematis seedlings?

This year, despite promises to not over extend myself in the garden, I was hit with a wave of ambition and decided to start a trillion things from seed. One of these was clematis 'helios'. I sowed them in my seed flat in a sunny window in a soiless mix and with a grain of salt as I've read germination can take anywhere from three months to 270 days. It appears I've struck a touch of beginner's luck as one of them has germinated in about a week and seems to be growing nicely...it's still coiled but would be about an inch long if extended. My question is: what next? I've read that they're slow growers and that I should not plant them out until next spring..overwintering them indoors or in a cold frame to let them fully mature. What is the best way to do this?
