I am just a relatively new gardener and need some help. I have a front garden which has an approximately 2' x 2' empty space. This space is in the shade most of the day. I would like to plant a flowering shrub or tree but am unsure of what to look for. Can anyone recommend something? As well, is there anything I need to do to the garden when planting this tree/shrub ie: mix in Miracle-Gro soil, peat moss, etc?

Hi Surfer.. how about a rhododendron or azalea.. they like an acid soil..or how about a kerria japonica?? It can get quite large but can be kept smaller by pruning.. nice yellow flowers, and does not like the full sun.
