Is it safe to eat potatoes which have turned green in the light as long as they are peeled? I have heard that only potatoes which have turned green while in the ground are toxic ( I have my doubts about this - I thought it was simply exposure to light whether before or after harvesting that produced the green )

This gardener is the living proof that as long as you cut off all the green bits, you have nothing to fear. Have done so for years!

If you have little green potatoes growing above the ground, yes they are toxic. Those growing below ground are okay if you peel off the green layer.
