I am looking for a garden in Canada that features the Himalayan Poppy. My wife and myself love blue flowers and grow lots of campanula but sadly have not had much luck with the famous 'Blue Poppy'. Does anyone out there know of such a garden other than the Reford Gardens in Quebec? We were wondering if there is such a garden in Ontario or Western Canada. If anyone can help us, we would love to hear from you.

Hi Gary, they are beautiful aren't they? Tricky to grow though. Are you looking for a garden with them or a place to purchase plants?

Hi Gary,

I can help you with this. If you are in Alberta sometime this summer, you must stop by Devonian Botanic Garden. As a point of interst, the floral symbol for the gardens is a Blue Poppy. :)There are quite a few Himalayan Poppies of different varieties growing there. One of the easiest places to find these beauties is in the "Blue Garden". As well, in August many more Poppies were planted around the Iris Dell. I can hardly wait to see them bloom!! Devonian Gardens is wonderful place to go throughout the summer. You really shouldn't miss it!!

There are some gardens in Victoria that feature mass beds of this poppy, like the Butchart gardens.

Patrick Lima, the well-known author of Canadian gardening books, does grow the blue Himalayan poppy at Larkwhistle, his garden in the village of Dyers Bay, in the Bruce Peninsula. I have also seen them at Reford Gardens in Quebec, at Butchart Gardens in Victoria and also at "Les Quatres Vents" - the amazing garden of Francis Cabot in La Malbaie, Quebec. I have tried several times, but Ottawa summers are too hot, too humid. Think Himalayas...
