I recently purchased a few "Bloomingdale Mix" Ranunculus, which I understand are perennials. They were sold to me by a greenhouse owner from the Hubbles Lake area west of Edmonton. Are these winter hardy in Central Alberta? Do they need extra protection in the winter, or do I have to dig them up before the winter time?

Hi, Grace. I'm in Calgary. I'm not an expert in ranunculus, but as far as I understand the bulbs have to be lifted and stored as you would gladiolas.

Thanks, dm, wish I'd asked about that sooner...I'm not too crazy about the idea of lifting bulbs. Oh well, even if I only get one good season out of them, they'll have paid for themselves. they ARE beautiful! I'll try to remember, though, to lift 'em in the fall.
