I am looking for suggestions for vines-annual and perennial- that may thrive in the conditions of my Rhodo- acidic soil; partial shade; fairly dry. I am looking for is a second flush of bloom on the shrub so the vine has to flower sometime in July and later. Also, the Rhodo is poorly shaped and has gaps and gaping holes so nice lush foliage on the vine would help. I thought of Scarlett Runner Beans but I don't know how they'd do in part sun and acidic soil?! Suggestions?

How about growing Clematis?

Clematis is probably not a good fit - rhodos like acid soil and clematis like alkaline soil so one of them is not going to be happy...

Well, I thought of Clematis because I have a few growing up through my Lilacs and Beauty Bush and they're beautiful. But, the clematis for this particular location would have to take part sun and acidic soil. Does anyone know of a Clematis that will grow in acidic soil?

I have passion flower that almost takes over the rhodo it climbs on. Those beautiful flowers look so great. The vine seems to love the spread of our Rhodo to wrap it around. Some love affair, it looks like.

I remember reading somewhere clematis do not mind acidic soil so long as they are well watered. I have a C. durandi climbing over my rhodos - acid soil and part shade but well watered. All my books say clematis need to be well watered.
