I'm going to try to grow a big pumpkin this year (contest between some of my neighbours) and want to grow the big one. Does anyone have any tips for me?

Hi Sandra. I have grown some large pumpkins and it is fairly easy. Start with the giant atlantic dill pumpkin seed. You can start them indoors or outside. I keep mine well watered and pollinate by hand. Once i have 2 good pumpkins coming on a plant i pinch off all other pumpkins and flowers. I also keep all the runners pinched back to keep all the growth going to the pumpkins.Last year i wasn't able to move the 2 pumpkins i grew out of the garden because they were to heavy for me to lift. The largest was about 2 feet across. Hope this helps.
