I know not to plant fennel with veggies. But has anyone heard of bad perennial combos?I had flowers on my wisteria(finally after patiently waiting for 5 years-in the spring of 2001)but last year the plant only had about 2 shoots on it and this year looks very dead. I pruned according to ALL the literature I had but I planted a mallow and Sedum autumn joy at the base of it spring 2002..Could these plant roots have affected the wisteria????Any comments!

Val, sorry about your wisteria, but I would seriously consider looking at alternate reasons for its untimely demise; a healthy plant, given normal care at planting and after, would not likely be concerned with any nearby plants.

I agree with Ed. I can't imagine a wisteria being affected by the plants you name. There's also not much in the way of pests and diseases that attack them. I suspect the most likely culprit is something to do with a change in its environment - prolonged drought, change in drainage or soil level, contamination of the soil with something or other 'abiotic' reasons such as those...
