Last year I had quite a time trying to keep various creatures out of my small raised vegetable garden. We ended up putting up an ugly temporary fence which worked fine, but we wanted something more attractive for long-term. We considered having a real fence installed but it is too expensive!

Then we read about these Scarecrow motion-activated sprayers, and they seem to be very effective. I am wondering if I could get away with using a Scarecrow & no fence at all. Last year most of our problem was with groundhogs, but also rabbits & raccoons. The garden is against the house so I don't need 360 degree protection.

There are Scarecrow imitations being sold on eBay for $30 + $10 shipping & I wonder if they are just as good as the original at $80.

I bought one of these Scarecrows last year from Lee Valley Tools and it worked beautifully. I didn't want the neighbours kitties hanging around my bird feeders and within 3 days of installing the Scarecrow, kitties were no where to be seen. We then passed the scarecrow between a few of the neighbours, as some didn't want kitties doing their business in certain areas. Again, only a couple of days and kitties got the idea. It didn't hurt them, just made them a little wet. Cats are very smart.

We thought it was well worth the $80.00 for neighbourhood peace.
