Hello everyone,

I have just dug up my first 25'x 9'plot to plant as a vegetable garden next spring. I double dug, added composted steer manure, peat moss, lime, some top soil and planted my garlic. I have found an old thermal pane window that has a 6'x3' pane of glass and was wondering if I could start planting now in a cold frame. I assumed that I would need a cold frame for germination. If anyone has experience in this area I would appreciate as much help as you could give me.

Thank you.

Hi Veronica, I'm taking a couse today (26th) on how to grow salad greens outside all winter without a greenhouse. I'll let you know how it went and hopefully pass on some suggestions.

Well, the gardening course was fabulous! The instructor was Linda Gilkeson who also teaches the Master Gardener course. Basically the idea is the usual spring planting then July and August and Sept plantings of salad greens, and things like broccoli, cabbage, leeks, kale etc. You can plant winter varieties of purple broccoli to pick until May! If you have a fax number I could send you the handouts we got which include planting and harvest schedules. Good day to you. L.
