I think this is my zone. Anyway I would like to overwinter my veggee garden and I seem to remember something about planting rye or some type of grass. For a number of reasons, to keep the cats out, so it would look nice and also to rejuvinate the soil. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for your time. Charlotte

Charlotte, I'm not sure about the cat part, but planting rye, buckwheat or similar in the early fall and ploughed under later the same season is a means of incorporating humus/green manure into the soil to improve its texture for the following season.
