I've been told to put out bars of soap to keep deer out of the garden, but I know it's a specific type & I don't know which brand to buy.

I think it's any strongly scented deoderant soap - I've seen both Lifebouy and Irish Spring mentioned. I've also seen the Tidy Bowl packets that you hang from the toilet bowl mentioned on another garden site as an effective deer repellant!

Lee Valley Tools sells a motion activated sprinkler for approx. $80.00 which also works on deer.

I have used Ropel - a safe spray that you can get at a garden centre - spray the flower leaves and bushes that are being sought after by the deer and it gives them a bitter taste, thus keeping the deer away. Also - Avon, soap on a stick - it sure stinks and is also effective for this use!

It's too late for this year, but planting squash, pumpkins, and zucchini around the perimeter of the garden discourages deer. They don't like the spines from the plants on their skinny little ankles.
