This coming Saturday is the day that most of the garden clubs in around the GTA have their plant sales..Etobicoke,Agincourt,Pickering,Newmarket,DonMills & not to mention the plant auction in Brooklin. I'm considering to hit the one in Pickering then booting it over to Brooklin.Would love to get feedback from those who have attended any of these..so that I can get the biggest bang for the day. Thanks Cheryl

Are there that many sales? wow!! I'm a new member of the Agincourt G. C. and they say theirs is an awesome sale. I'm helping set up on Friday and working at it on Saturday with cash in hand and donations from my garden to sell for the club. There will be other vendors there with plants too. Might see you there Cheryl!

Although not in that area, my conclusion after attending numerous plant sales indicates that a successful experience one year, is no guaratee of a repeat the next. People change, as do their tastes and abilities, so look for surprises wherever you go, cross your fingers, hope for the best, and the best will probably be an improvement over the previous year. Who could ask for anything more?

Hi Sue, I was so taken back with the variety at the Agincourt sale that I forgot your name(sorry) but I did ask one of the members if they knew anyone that frequents I CAN GARDEN.I picked up alot of stuff here along with Hosta Black Hills,Island Charm and Christmas Tree.Prices were too good to pass by & I'll definetly keep it on my list for next year. You lucky gal..Blue Dancer is beautiful.

The line up to get into the Civic Centre was the longest I've ever seen, but that shows the increased interest in Native Plants. Picked up Blue Eyed Grass, Jack in Pulpits,May flower and Heptica.

In around home area I picked up Hosta Blue Boy and a bunch of other shade plants.

I haven't even planted what I picked up today and I'm already wondering what's on for next Saturday...guess I'll never learn.

Cheryl

Hey Cheryl - You must have covered a lot of turf in your travels!! With the cost of gas it would have been cheaper to go to one nursery and pay full price - just kidding of course -THERE IS NOTHING LIKE A BARGAIN ON PLANTS!!!!!! I got Sum and Substance yesterday at the Agincourt Sale - have just the huge spot to cover - his hostas were in fabulous shape eh? My husband brough me back some seeds from Banff (not from the wild - all packaged up) of the blue eyed grass - any suggestions on germination - pots or ground and how. Instructions on package were vague. It looks beautiful!! My livingroom can hold no more - it's impassable and has been all winter but now it's at bursting proportions - man I need a greenhouse. Don't you keep promising yourself you will buy no more until what you have is planted? I repeat that to myself as a daily chant - however breakdown and drive up to Mason Hogue, Vandermeers, Goodwood, Richters, and the like! Let me know if you find any more sales next weekend eh? Actually you can find some good deals at garage sales too. Sue

Sue, Not only is there bargin on plants but talking to those that know hands on about the plants. I picked up Sub & Substance several years ago for the same reason as you...to fill a large area.I'm debating repostioning it further back in the garden but I think I'll need a crane to get the root ball out...it has at least 45 eyes. I was surprised at the quality, size and price of the hosta at the Agincourt sale.I really had to hold myself back from buying more than I did. Sue, It doesn't matter how long or loud you chant it's just not going to work.Haven't you realized yet that your not at fault, that our vechiles are somewhat to blame. I'll be checking the newspapers for private sales.

Thanks Cheryl and Sue for alerting me to the Agincourt sale. I'll put it on my list for next year.

I went to the NANPS sale at the Civic Garden centre. Alas, I was too late . . . by noon almost everything was gone! I was able to pick up a male fern and to speak to the former president of the fern society, so it was not a complete loss.

I also learned (and would like to pass on to those who are thinking of going next year):

- that the sale is always on the Sat. before Mother's day, mark your calendars now!

- that to get best selection, you must be there when it opens and stand in that line-up!

- that there is a reputable wildflower company at the former Downsview airport, that propogates natives, responsibly. I haven't made it out there yet, but they have a website: http://www.nativeplants.on.ca/index.htm
