Hello all, I aquired some dahlia bulbs last fall. I have never planted them before. I have no clue as to what kind they are either. They are in clusters of about 10 bulbs attached together. The clump is the size of a dinnerplate. Can anyone tell me how to take care of them. Should I separate them etc? Thanks for your help.

Hi Gaby,

Well, You should carefully separate the tubers, making sure that you have at least one eye (shoot) per division. Or if you have the space, you can plant the whole clump in fertile soil so that the crowns are only 2-3 inches below the surface, after the threat of frost. I personally plant my dalhias out fairly early and mound up the soil slightly to protect any new shoots that appear until the frost season is over. Don't forget to stake them...they grow fairly tall and the wind loves to knock them over.....Ian

Thanks for the advice. I have loads of room to plant them. I have about 30 clusters of them. I guess I'll have to share. Gotta keep them going. I can't wait to see what color etc. that they are. Again, Thanks. Gaby
