I let my amaryllis go to seed last year. Now I have quite a few seeds. The question is has any tried to grow an amaryllis from seed?

Indeed Amaryllis plants can be grown from seeds, it is a real challenge! The seeds should be started indoors in a damp soil with themperatures between 21 and 23 degree C. You have to keep this temperature constantely during the germination time which is approximately 5 to 6 weeks.Growing seeds from your own Amaryllis plant will often give a different plant because often it will not breed true! Good luck!

Should bloom in three years, so I have been told. Hope your seeds are realtively new, also read that seed are only viable for 6 months.

Thanks for all your info. The seeds are just under a year old. Looks like it would be better just to buy more bulbs instead of waiting 3 years! What zone are they? I bring the bulbs in Sept. and give them a rest and force them to bloom for Christmas. I might try some just for the challenge!
