Need help with trying to make a journal with the 12 months seasonal tasks, tips, etc - everything from - time to plant veggies, companion planting flowers, lawn care, when to prune trees, bug control, good tools, secrets of making compost, tips, recipes, catalogues, jokes etc. to fill up each months header page.

Oct - lawnmower mulch leaves and spread on garden. Water, water. Spray plants brought in from outside to keep bugs down. Quit fertalizing indoor plants. Make Pumpkin Orange Cookies - Beat til creamy 1 c. sof butter, 1 c. sugar, 1/2 c. backed brown sugar. Add 1 egg, 15 oz. can pumpkin, 2 Tbsp. orange juice, 2 tsp. grated orange peel. Stir in 2 1/2 c. flour, 1/2 tsp. baking soda, 1/2 tsp. sale. Add 1/2 c. chopped nuts. Drop by spoonfuls on ungreased sheet. Nake at 375 for 12 to 14 min. Cool completely on wire rack. Spread on glaze - mix 1 1/2 c. sifted icing sugar and 1/2 tsp. grated orange rind and 2 - 3 Tbsp. orange juice.

Nov - water, water. Make notes of changes that need to take place in the garden. Spray house plants for bugs

Dec - plan changes/new gardens and the plants you need. Set out bird seed. Wipe down baseboards with mild bleach solution to keep out spiders

Jan - gather seed catalogues and place your order

Feb - trade garden seeds

March - bring dahlias and geraniums into the light

April - start fertalizing indoor plants. Start tomatoes, peppers inside. Plant potatoes and peas on the 30th. Pull weeds, fert. lawn, trim trees & fert.

May - place your plants in the garden after the full moon. Dig & divide and trade plants. Remove mulch from roses. Buy bedding plants

June - fert roses. Lightly carve a face in pumpkin for Haloween

July - deahead flowers. Pick flowers to make potpourri. Pick wild berries for jams. Gather cattails for fall arrangements

Aug - 15th stop fertalizing garden. Make herbal vinegars

Sept - cut & remove dead material to compost. Bring inside "keeper" potted plants and spray for bugs with few drops dish soap in water mister

Oct - dig carrots & potaotes. Plant garlic. String rose hips on dental floss for XM tree garland

Nov - fill in your garden dirary. Make willow wreaths for Xmas gifts, decorate with seed pkg, garden gloves, catalogues

Dec - make christmas cookies and gifts from your garden. Attend a "cookie exchange"

Marianne, One fun thing for any winter month is creating designs for next year's beds! I love to collect quotes from poetry and any reading I'm doing at the moment. There are great old quotes in older gardening books, as well. Drawing illuminations for your journal is cheering as well. Have fun!
