I'd like to know when you are supposed to actually stop watering the plants. Anyway to see this? I stopped watering a plant (lavatera) last year and this year it didn't come back and I don't want to loose it again.

Michelle, I do not stop watering periennals until the frost starts. They are still alive. And annuals I stop watering after the frost gets them and kills them. Hope this helps. Wendy

Lavatera often acts as an annual, although it sometimes seeds itself too, so not watering might not be the reason it didn't come back. However, Wendy's advice is the best in any case...

If your area has been dry all season as has ours - water often until everything is frozen - or we get 6& inches of rain
