Have you ever visited the Jardin des Quatres Vents in La Malbaie, Quebec? Location: about 2 hours east of Quebec City, on the north shore of the St. Lawrence. The owner's family name is Cabot. I believe he is American. The garden is said to be amazing, with features such as lifesized mechanical sculpures, which move when visitors trip an electric eye. Please tell me anything you can about this garden. Thanks!

Pat
Friends (the Reillys) toured Les Quatres Vents at la Malbaie, Quebec last fall and they say it is spectacular ( almost as nice as your garden). Phil, with the Garden Writers of America had to visit several inspirational gardens in Quebec(Some guys have terrible jobs). He has a new talk and slide presentation on them. We should book him for an inspirational evening next winter.
Quatre Vents is considered the most beautiful private garden in Canada. Rarely opened to the public (or anyone else), his masterpiece has spectacular woodland gardens, Japanese gardens, and breathtaking formal gardens. Francis Cabot is a master of integrating his hilltop garden with the surrounding views that include the expansive St. Lawrence River. Quatre Vents has been called Canada's Sissinghurst
Francis Cabot has just written a book about it and is the same amazing plantsman who we are so indebted to for founding the Garden Conservancy http://www.gardenconservancy.org/ about ten years ago. He was recently honoured by AHS and NARGS. Here is his short bio http://www.ahs.org/publications/tag/000304/news.htm
Looking forward to your garden party.

I understand that tours are available only 4 times per year. Do you know where I can get more information or a web site that provides details? Thanks in advance.

Cullen Gardens and Jardin des Quatres Vents are both lovely gardens but not in the same class at all. Quatre Vents is probably one of the best half-dozen private gardens in North America. It is the property of Mr. Frank Cabot and his family has gardened there for several generations. Go to the library and ask for the book: "The Greater Perfection" written by Frank Cabot. This book is about Quatre Vents.

Attention: Robert Moores. Try calling a B & B called La Chatelaine in the village of Pointe-au-Pic in the Charlevoix region of Quebec. 418-665=4064 The owner, a lady called Louise who is fluently bilingual, knows Frank Cabot and les Quatres Vents very well. This is a fantastic B & B, by the way. If you have a group, like a garden club, Quatres Vents will open just for you. Two summers ago, we took about 14 members of the Manotick Horticultural Society (just outside Ottawa) We all stayed together in a couple of B & Bs, and we went to Quatres Vents. An amazing experience.
