A good book that I have is called "Wildflowers Across the Prairies" by Vance/Jowsey/Mclean. Mine is the third printing 1989, although there may also be a more recent printing. It is published by Western Produce Prairie Books Saskatoon, Sk., with 400 species, 654 color photographs. The index includes both common & scientific names of flowers. I find I refer to this book fairly often. Hope this helps in your search.

Widlflowers of Alberta was published last year I believe. Should be able to find it any Alberta bookstore.

Very good photographs, and easy to understand text.

If you're hiking in forest in AB or SK, the book "Plants of the Western Boreal Forest & Aspen Parkland" is great. Widely available.
