I can't comment on rating Garden Centers as I live in a small town but thought it might be helpful to rate mail order nurseries. There are many reputable ones and also terrible ones such as Rockwood Gardens! The two that I would absolutely recommend are Boughen's Nurseries in Dauphin, and Skinners. I couldn't believe the excellent clematis I received in the mail from Skinners. These nurseries are both in Manitoba.

My top choice is Botanus.com. I also like Vesey's, McFaydens and Dominion Seed House.

My favourite is Ferncliffe Gardens in Mission, BC. I ordered Daylilies and Peonies from them. The plants were healthy, the roots came in big clumps and fat roots. They also gave me a bonus. This is what I call "what a bargoon!" Shipping charges are also low.

My preference is Boughen from Manitoba. They have excellent stock and stand behind what they sell. Has anyone heard of Crescent Nursery in Ontario. I collect hostas and would like to find a reputable hosta supplier that is inexpensive. If anyone is aware of a good hosta supplier please let me know.

I like botanus.com, Lindenberg in Brandon Manitoba, Vesey's and Cruikshank's (although it is a little more expensive). A couple of years ago I ordered some hosts's from Crescent and received very good plants. However, as I am not a hosta collector, I am not sure how they stackup compared to others.

I have ordered from Vesey's, Garden Import, Perennial Gardens (in Maple Ridge, B.C.)and Fraser Thimble Farms. I have only been disappointed with Clematis I received from Garden Import (too small). Carmen

Also for the daylily lovers - Pam Erickson's Daylilies are great!

I have to add my vote for Botanus.com. Their prices are excellent. The customer service is fantastic. They made one little mistake with one of my orders and they corrected it immediately and sent some free bulbs with it. The bulbs I have received have been beautiful and I had the most gorgeous spring display ever this year. The lilies I ordered are all up and healthy and I am confidant they will be gorgeous as well. I already have my fall order ready to send in.

The Perennial Gardens have a tremendous selection of hard to find perennials and grasses. Good service, too.

Fraser Thimble Farms also have a great selection of perennials, grasses, and many native plants. They have an unbelievable selection of hardy orchids for your garden. Even for me here in zone 3 they offer several hardy orchid species (e.g. Ladyslippers).

Hole's in Edmonton have great selection and service. They are on the pricey side.

For prairie native plants, I recommend ALCLA in Calgary. Good prices and good service.

Hortico in Ontario have a very extensive perennial catalogue, but my recommendation is you may want to shop in person because their mail order service has not at all measured up in my experience to the other companies I've mentioned.

McFayden in Brandon is good, they stand for their product and when you do not like it they repace it. T&T in Winnipeg has also a good assortment of quality product and their pricing is fair. Spring gardens in Ontario has also a good assortment but they are on the pricey site I love Veseys, product choice, pricing and service are excellent.
