I recieved a Spring Garden Catalogue recently. They are located in Port Burwell, Ontario. I am wondering if anyone has ordered from these guys, and were you pleased with your shipment? Please email me.... ddzenkiw@mail.wellsgray.net

DO NOT ORDER FROM THESE PEOPLE!!! I order from a lot of different companies and I can honestly say this has been my worst experience. I ordered the mini-rose collection. They kept billing me for 2 even though I repeatedly told them over a period of 5 months that I had only ordered 1 collection to begin with and most of the roses I received were dead. The remaining few took the entire summer before they amounted to anything. I heard that this is the same company that operates as Rockwood Gardens. I would never do business with either of them again. There is a web site http://pbmfaq.dvol.com/indes.html where people can write in about their experiences with different mail order companies. They have reviews about most of the companies, some good, some bad.

I received an order from them a few years ago. My mother gave carnations to me as a gift. I lost two. but the rest have done very well. They didn't all bloom until the second year, but they are beautiful now. My only suggestion is to plant them immediately upon receipt, as they were quite dry when I got them. I hope this helps ... I think it depends upon what you order.

I ordered from them last year and will the last!! The shipment was very late, and when we phoned them when the shipment was coming, they were very rude! That and half the items were dead upon arrival. (no problem getting refund for that) The rest of the items were in pretty rough shape. Will have to see if any of them will make a come back this year?

One would do well to order from the more well-known catalogs. See icangarden.com for a good list. The catalog should offer both the latin and common name for the plant and include the zone so that you will know it could grow in your area. Good luck with your planning!

I ordered from this company and would not recomend it to anyone. The orders were late, half dead, and they were very unhelpful when I called for advice. They also sold my name and address to many companies resulting in loads of junk mail (I use a different middle initial for every company I order from to trace such mailings) Check with local nurseries or gardening groups for a recommendation for a reputable company, I wish I had!

Now I'm worried. I ordered from this company for the first time this year. I haven't recieved my order yet. It's to early.I'll keep my fingers crossed that the flowers I've ordered will be somewhat healthy when they arrive. Thanx Klaus

I ordered two yucca plants from them. They arrive as quite healthy looking roots, though one took a bit longer to sprout. My only complaint was that they say in their catalogue "send no money now, pay only after you receive your order and are happy with it." I ordered the plants and even before I received the plants in the mail they sent me a letter asking if I was unhappy with my order as I hadn't submitted payment yet. I replied that I haven't even received the plants yet, I would pay when I received the plants as they said I could.

I have to agree with Sharon and Jennifer. I have ordered once from each company - the plants were dried out, the junk mail has never stopped flowing. Best of luck

I ordered from Spring Garden last year. Although I was happy with calls to customer service, I was not happy to come home one day and find a box of live plants had been sitting on the front step in the sun all day. My order consisted of hedge roses and a few other plants. Although the roses bloomed until November, I was disappointed with their overall growth. The other plants also proved to be disappointing and were eventually returned. Good Luck with your order!

OK, I was unhappy with the plants, all except 2 rose bushes have died...and the company has changed names! Can anyone provide me with the phone # Again? I would like to get a refund if possible, and send them the corpses. Don't you like how the call isn't free if you want to complain?

Their phone # is 1-800-917-2852 or 1-519-856-4498

I must say that I am unhappy with these guys. I ordered my plants in March...as they told me I would get first priority if I ordered early. It is now alsmost June, and I still haven't received them. Now I'm wondering about how the condition of these plants will be. I will definityly post and let everyone know.

I received my shipment finally 3 days ago and a late payment notice that day with a tone to it that turned me off.I ordered 3 hedge roses( they are sold in 3) and received just one plant. the packing slip stated 3 and I was billed for 3. Needless to say I deducted the amt for 2 off the cheque. I tried calling the # but could not get thru, it sounded like a fax# The plants I received were ok but not great hopefully with TLC they'll thrive. In retrospect what looked enticing in the catalogue in Feb., I could now purchase healthier and less expensive plants locally in the dept stores and garden ctrs right now. A lesson learned!

After ordering about 2 1/2 months ago, I finally got my plants May 31. I ordered a complete garden consisting of 49 plants. The plants were not too great of shape. Some of them starting to rot and smell like a swamp. (Even had tiny snails in the pots) After picking off the dead, wilted and rotted leaves, all that remains is a stem. They claim that 'your plants will look dead, but the root systems are good so new growth will appear soon" Their packaging was good. I was quite worried that Canada Post would beat them to a pulp. If I was to order from these guys, I would stay away from the live plants and only order the roots. As the roots were the only thing that arrived in decent shape.

Their root stock is too small compared to what one gets from reputable companies. My advice is not to order from these people at all and maybe they will just go out of business altogether. They give mail order plant sellers a bad name.

Hi I have been following these comments with growing unease as I too ordered from Spring Garden back at the beginning of April. I live on the West Coast and was thinking that I would never get my plants in one piece and alive. This morning my plants arrived, and I am very happy to say that they were all in very good shape, healthy and green. The shipment took a little under a week to arrive and CanadaPost did a very good job in delivering all in tact. the packaging was excellent and although some of the plants were a little dry most were still moist. So take heart those who have not got their shipments yet it is not all doom and gloom with Spring Garden.

Speaking of the company that's operating also as Rockwood Gardens. I ordered from them, received my order, not good results with purchase. Lady down the street ordered $78 worth the plants etc. Never received her order but her cheque was cashed. When I phoned the telephone # listed, it was located in a warehouse I was informed but there had been no one around there for some time. TERRIBLE!! She never did get her money back. MY ADVISE - ORDER FROM SOMEWHERE ELSE - A REPUTABLE COMPANY! Deb

I think all new gardeners get taken in by these people. The pictures are so pretty. If only what you received was as good!!. I have found that if you complain by the cutoff date for complaints, they will send you a credit note. I recommend you use the credit note to order the daffodils they push in the fall. After you receive your bulbs, toss all future solicitations from these people in the garbage. They will eventually give up.

I think this company preys on inexperienced and new gardeners. All you have to do is look at one of their garden "collections" to realize that quite a few of those plants won't bloom at the same time; therefore, your garden will never look like the picture. As well, as already stated, many of these plants can be ordered locally, in better shape and for less money. Personally, I like to handle my plant and inspect it closely before I buy it.

My pet peeve in incorrect zone ratings, or none at all. One catalogue I ordered a few years ago had the nerve to say that they didn't put zone ratings in their catalogue because the best way to determine if a plant will grow is to try it. I guess they want you to buy the item and should it die, most people probably don't bother obtaining a credit for it.

I hate those drawings of fabulous perennial gardens for $15. Notice they are just that, drawings and not photos. One of those companies had hardy hibiscus listed twice in their catalogue. One time it was shown with the correct zone rating, zone 5. The next time it was shown as part of a complete perennial package and said the package was for zone 3.

I grew up near Rockwood. All that I've ever seen at the 'Rockwood Gardens' is a large building and no green house where they might 'grow things'. I too get all the lovely flyers and am tempted but I will not now . Thanks all.

I ordered 2 Japanese red maples from these people last spring. I did receive them ok, but one of the trees had very little feeder roots. One of them grew real good, but the one without good roots took a lot of nursing to show any life. I have them well protected outside, and hopefully will survive. I have been trying to find a nursery in Canada that has the dissectem cultivators and will ship them. If anybody out there knows of any, I sure would appreciate it. Thanks. I`m in zone 2/3. Sna

I'll never, ever make the mistake of ordering from these people again! Save yourself the torment and a bunch of money. Since then...for the last 6-7 years I have been ordering from Lindberg seeds. FANTASTIC! The catalogue is not much to look at, being black and white, but the prices make up for it. I've only had 1 problem, and they went above and beyond for me. Took care of it quickly and so very friendly. Highly recommended! Good luck.

A friend of mine ordered a whole lot of Hostas from Brecht's, the Hostas came in plastic bags, barely alive. In with his order were a lot of pamphlets from....you guessed it "Spring Garden" they seem to be everywhere

The Spring garden catalogue looks great and I can not understand that a company with such a good catalogue has such a poor product. I did not order from them because they are too expensive.

do you people have nothing better to do with your time then complain about this? i have ordered from spring garden and found their product to be the best on the market in regards to mail orders. i received my plants thriving and very healthy. i also spent about 160 dollars and well for sure got my money's worth. it seems like people focus on the bad more then the good but i highly recommend spring garden, very good company to deal with only problem......i had to wait 2 weeks to get into my garden

To the last thread -- you probably work at Spring Garden. Too many people have had legitimate complaints and not much satisfaction. I am surprized that Spring Garden and Rockwood Gardens are still in business. But as the saying goes, "there's a sucker born every minute". And as long as there are suckers out there, these companies will remain in business. We should do what all good gardeners do, and treat these businesses like suckers and cut them out!

There are more of us out here than the 30 that have submitted messages, I think we just figure people will get the message and stay away from this company. By the way do you manage or own this company?

Well, I shook my head, and it wasn't up and down, but side-to-side...."no-no-no to spring gardens and rockwood gardens (and they don't deserve to be capitalized, even though they are CAPITALIZING on the innocent public. We are dedicated gardeners and are spreading the word about these companies instead of spreading the "manure" like they are! As the saying goes "let the buyer beware", we are letting potential buyers be aware. Check back on the threads from last year and just see how many disatisfied customers there were. What you have read is just a drop in the bucket, hopefully we can put a few holes in their bucket.
