DO YOU SUFFER FROM PEONY ENVY?

Peak Peony season is upon us and the envy begins. Envy of your neighbour whose Peonies stood up to that downpour the night before the tour of your garden. Envy of the colours and flowers in forms you've never seen before. Envy of the longer Peony season made possible by choosing a range of bloom times. We're not knocking all the wonderful, double-flowered, antique varieties you see in most gardens. Peonies live a long time. They too were new once.

Nobody told you the old ones you see around were originally selected for their cut flower potential. They were chosen for things like fragrance and durability in the vase, but not for their performance in the garden. They are now inexpensive because they've been around a long time so there are lots to go round.

Like the automobile, Peonies have been improved since 1900. Countless hours have been spent by hybridizers to improve the flowers, plant forms and length of bloom. Once you've seen a newer Peony, the results are obvious. Not only are they different, they're available in an incredible range of colours and heights and most don't flop.

So why not banish your Peony Envy once and for all. Just try one of ours. They're 3 - 5 eye, freshly-dug roots shipped to you in the fall (the best time for planting).

SOME CURES

We've got 6 new Peony Envy cures for you this year bringing our total pharmacopia to 18. All of them work.

CORAL SUPREME - New for 2011
(blooms early season) A gorgeous, cup-shaped, salmon-coral semi-double, with somewhat fuller flowers than its sibling CORAL CHARM. An excellent cut flower variety too.

IVORY INSPIRATIONS - New for 2011
(blooms mid-season) A lightly-scented, pure white inspiration with prominent, bright red stigmas in strong single flowers. Every garden needs single-flowered Peonies for contrast in bouquets. They're also a good choice for windy locations.

PILLOW TALK - New for 2011 * GOLD MEDAL WINNER *
(blooms mid-season) Soft pink, fragrant, fully double flowers on sturdy stems with healthy, dark green foliage. Superb for cutting.

MISS AMERICA - New for 2011 * GOLD MEDAL WINNER *
(blooms mid-season) An incredible profusion of fragrant semi-double white flowers with golden centres on a tall, sturdy plant. There are plenty of side buds to extend the bloom season. A rare example of a Peony that is so good it has won the American Peony Society gold medal twice!

PINK SALUTATION - New for 2011
(blooms mid-season) Multiple rows of flounced, creamy-white guard petals, artistically streaked and flushed with deep pink and raspberry. Lightly-scented blooms greet you from the top of this compact 66cm (26") new introduction.

ROCK GARDEN PEONIES

These are relatively new to the Peony world and only recently have become available in any quantity. Most have some blood from the dwarf species Paeonia tenuifolia and P. tenuifolia PLENA, two early-blooming species celebrated for their hardiness and finely dissected "fern leaf" foliage. Many of these new varieties share this beautifully textured foliage and compact, mounded growth. We are now pleased to offer these exciting new plants in a range of colours, flower forms and foliage.

MEMORIAL GEM - New for 2011
(blooms very early season) Brilliant scarlet, single, 10cm (4") flowers over a tidy mound of finely-divided, blue-green foliage in spring. Each flower has nicely contrasting golden-yellow stigmas.
