January Special Events at Bok Tower Gardens

Bok Tower Gardens will offer a variety of new special events this month. Beginning Saturday, January 16, certified Kripalu Yoga teacher Eileen Katz will teach a five-week outdoor class from 11 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. The cost is $85 and includes an individual Gardens’ membership; or $50 for members.

On Friday, January 22, the annual Volunteer Job Fair will be from 1:30-3:00 p.m. Volunteers are needed to assist in a variety of areas including Information Desk greeters, garden guides, Pinewood historians, shuttle drivers, Café and Gift Shop, special events and more. On Sunday, January 24, the Music at Pinewood chamber music concert series will begin at 4:30 p.m. Pianist Judith Alstadter will perform “From Chopin with Love” and a reception with refreshments will follow the concert. Tickets are $25 or $20 for members. Seating is limited.

On Thursday, January 28, Sebring artist Owen Jolly will begin a 12-week series of watercolor classes for beginner, intermediate or advanced artists. Participation is limited and costs $225; or $180 for members.

On Friday, January 29, the Moonlight Carillon Concert will kick off the 81st anniversary celebration. Visitors can experience the Gardens by the light of a full moon for half-price admission, have a light dinner at the Blue Palmetto Café and enjoy an hour-long concert by carillonneur William De Turk at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, January 30 and Sunday, January 31, the anniversary celebration continues with “Crossing the Moat” from noon to 1 p.m. and 2 to 3 p.m. Visitors will have the rare opportunity to walk across the moat that surrounds the Singing Tower for a closer look at the Great Brass Door and enjoy special carillon concerts at 1 and 3 p.m.

Also on Saturday, January 30, a new exhibit opens in the Visitor Center featuring “Birds as Art” photography by Arthur Morris and “Winged Creation” sculptures by David Price, Gardens’ president. An opening night reception to meet the artists begins at 6 p.m. Call 863-676-1408 or e-mail  for reservations.
