Bok Tower Gardens has extended the hours for the Christmas at Pinewood holiday home tour with this year’s theme, “Joy to the World.” Open through January 3, tours of the 20-room, 1930s Pinewood Estate will be available Christmas Eve from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Christmas Day from 1 to 5 p.m., New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is an additional fee for Christmas at Pinewood tickets that can be purchased at the entrance gate, Visitor Center and Pinewood Estate. Sponsors include Progress Energy and Winter Haven Hospital along with media partners The Ledger and WEDU.

“Nearly 200 volunteer angels, many of whom consider us their family, plan their holidays around this event,” explains David Price, Gardens’ president. “We’re all excited about being voted Florida’s best garden and enjoy sharing Edward Bok’s gift throughout this season of giving.”

One of Central Florida’s favorite holiday events, more than 10,000 visitors are expected to attend and will be invited to vote on their favorite room designs. The top prize in the “People’s Choice” awards is the opportunity to host a private event for 25 at Pinewood Estate. Visitors may purchase tickets for a drawing to win prizes that include a private dinner for eight at Pinewood Estate.

Displays of poinsettias featuring 15 varieties with unusual colors and variations will be located around the Visitor Center. More than 200 red and white poinsettias will be placed around Pinewood Estate along with six live poinsettia plants that have been potted together in large balls hanging near the entrance. Many other unique plants are on sale at the Gift Shop and gift memberships for an annual pass may be purchased in the Visitor Center.

Seasonal music during carillon concerts at 1 and 3 p.m. from the 205-foot Singing Tower will continue through January 1. On December 25, the Gardens will be open Christmas Day celebrating the season with Christmas carols from around the world during carillon concerts at 1 and 3 p.m. The Blue Palmetto Café and Gift Shop will be open from noon to 5 p.m.

Open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Bok Tower Gardens is a National Historic Landmark dedicated in 1929 as a gift from Dutch immigrant Edward W. Bok, a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, humanitarian and an advocate of world peace. Admission to the Gardens is required to tour Pinewood Estate. Group rates are available.
