My Two Cents Worth

Since the last newsletter I have been to my Garden Writers Symposium in Raleigh, NC. You should just see us at those symposiums – running around trying to take it all in and in such a short time. They pack so much in for us, it truly is hard to grasp it all until you are back home and look at the pictures. Tom has just put the pictures up but of course I have not done a recap yet. There are story tours, sessions, and the companies who set up booths bring all kinds of goodies along. I brought some plants home with me this time. It was the first time I could as I was not going to Canada so had my phyto done and when I got here they didn’t even ask to see it!! All the babies are tucked into pots right now and growing so nicely. I am looking forward to putting them all into our beds surrounding the pool area. I have 8 big beds to fill!

One of the books I rely on a lot is called “Tropical Flowering Plants” by Kirsten Albrecht Llamas. You would not believe how many plants we have here that are new to’s like Christmas every day. I also potted up some local gingers and helliconia babies so they can go in those beds as well.

What performed well for you this year – why not send me a picture of it and we can get it up in the Gardeners Showcase area on the site. Please send to me at and include your City, Zone and why you like this plants performance.

Would you like to submit a guest article? I can’t think of a better person to write an article on our site than one who is a gardener. If you would like to share what gardening is like in your area – and that can be anywhere in the world – I know there would be others who would love to read it. Please send to so I can share it. Fiskars is going to be running a contest on our site so watch for that. The prize is their brand new reel mower. We had a chance to see it and push it around and you will not believe how easy this is to move and how quiet it is…it will only be open to those who are members of our site. We are going to be changing the newsletter a bit so watch for the November issue. If you enjoy my newsletter, would you please pass it along to your friends?

October is here…enjoy the pumpkins from Raleigh, NC as my pictures this issue. Are you decorating with pumpkins too? Send us some pictures so we can share them with others. Autumn Blessings to you! sent to me by my friend Linda Estill and now to you!

‘My life is my message.’ - Gandhi

Each of us lives a life that expresses who we are, reacts to the world around us, shows our passions, reflects our deep river of feeling and being. We might sing out in joy, through our words and actions and expressions, we might hide in fear and pain, we might lash out in anger. Every thing we do, everything we are, expresses. Gandhi’s message was his life, and yours is your life. What message are you giving the world, through your actions, how you live, how you treat others, what you accomplish, how you choose to be, every moment of every day?
