We love going outside and enjoying the warm sunshine that summer brings to spend time with friends and make the most of garden spaces. Brighten up your garden by following one or all of the tips below. Your garden will look great and bring you even more joy.

Don't overlook the importance of fertilising your lawn. Your lawn will benefit greatly from the added nutrients. It will also add some life to the look of the lawn. You have two choices when it comes to fertiliser. You can either use store-bought fertiliser or make your own.

  • Use ashes from the fireplace.
  • Beer also has a large variety of nutrients. Mix the beer with a can of your favourite fizzy sugary beverage.
  • Baby shampoo mixed with gallons of water can also benefit the lawn.
Scrub the Patio

Don't underestimate the difference that a clean patio makes. Scrub the surface and remove weeds from between the stones. Put away anything that doesn't belong on the patio and add a pretty decorative accent to give new life to the space.

Plant Once-Get Joy Year after Year

Many gardeners plant shorter living annuals each year, which is a good option if you want some quick colour. However, if you want something that's going to last, plant perennials. Though they may be slow to grow that first year, they come back year after year bursting with colour. Try adding some to your garden, so you don't have to miss out on this year's colour. Nevertheless, fill in the space with a few annuals.

Create a Water Feature

Water features add beauty and serenity to your outdoor space. However, fountains, ponds, and other water features can be pricey. Luckily, you can make your own inexpensive pond. All you'll need is a hole. Dig it to the size of your pond, Line the hole with a tarpaulin, add some pretty stones to hide the tarpaulin, then fill the pond with water.

Feed the Birds

Invite some birds to your yard by placing bird feeders around your property. You don't have to spend a small fortune on the feeders when you make them yourself. Save your empty tin cans, paint them, fill them with birdseed, and hang them on the trees around your property. Soon you'll be able to bird watch right from your window or backyard.

No More Weeds

Weeds can quickly take over your garden and detract from its beauty. Keep up the weeding on a regular basis to keep them at bay. You don't have to use harsh chemicals. Use a homemade weed killer by filling a bottle with vinegar and salt. Spray the weeds and watch them wither away.

Light It Up

Outdoor lighting adds beauty and functionality to your outdoor space. However, having outdoor power installed can be cost prohibitive. If you're on a budget or you just want an easy way to add lighting, consider solar-powered lighting. Place these lights in a sunny spot and when the sun goes down, they will light up the area. These lights come in many sizes and designs.
