Renowned chef Raymond Blanc OBE to open 25th RHS

Renowned chef Raymond Blanc OBE will open the 25th RHS Garden Wisley Flower Show, in Surrey at 9am on 5 September. The spectacular six-day flower festival (5-10 September 2017) offers visitors the chance to enjoy a profusion of plants, seek the best gardening advice and explore the garden in full bloom.

As well as being one of the UK’s most respected chefs, Raymond is passionate about gardening. This summer he launched The Raymond Blanc Gardening School to share the expertise of the team behind the two-acre kitchen garden, which supplies his two-Michelin-starred restaurant and The Raymond Blanc Cookery School at Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons.

The RHS Wisley Flower Show will enable visitors to browse and purchase top-quality plants and get expert advice from more than 50 specialist nurseries – including many RHS Chelsea and Hampton Court Palace Flower Show medal winners. Several will be selling edible plants, such as herbs from Pepperpot Nursery and The Culinary Herb Company, unusual edible plants from Edulis Nursery and Pennard Plants, chilli plants from Sea Spring Seeds and plants to make your own cocktails by Plants4Presents.

The National Dahlia Society Annual Show will take place at the anniversary event, showcasing the best in dahlia cultivation and colour. The show will feature over 100 competition classes, including a special 25th Wisley Flower Show anniversary class. Visitors to the Dahlia Show are invited to get involved and enter their own blooms into the ‘My Best Garden Dahlia’ competition, on 9 and 10 September. On either day, entrants just need to bring along a single stem of any type of dahlia that they have grown, to be judged by a panel of experts.

RHS Garden Wisley’s Glasshouse will host an outstanding ‘Bego-lumbo’ display during the show. The spectacle will see a fascinating combination of the garden’s large collection of begonias, displayed alongside aquatic Nelumbo flowers (sacred lotus).

For the first time this year’s show is proudly supported by Bonne Maman, makers of conserves, marmalades, compotes and chilled desserts.
