America in Bloom created the award in 2009 in memory of John R. Holmes III, who died unexpectedly. An AIB board member and officer since AIB's inception, John was a tremendous advocate for city beautification and a true believer in the power of flowers and plants to change lives.

Last year's winner was Mary Hertel of Arroyo Grande, California.

This year's award will be presented during the 2016 America in Bloom Symposium & Awards, October 6-8 in Arroyo Grande, California. The symposium is open to all who may have an interest in AIB activities.
