St. Albert & District Garden Club

The St. Albert & District Garden Club has over 55 members. We hold monthly meetings and different topics are scheduled for each meeting. Often we have guest speakers who are experts on particular gardening topics. We aim for a blend of background knowledge and practical tips. In particular we concentrate on information about gardening in and around St. Albert and dealing with our harsh Canadian climate.

Our meetings are usually held on the second or third Tuesday of each month, in the Lunch Room of Sir George Simpson Jr. High School, 50 Grosvenor Blvd., St. Albert and start at 7:00 pm. Please check our website at to confirm topics, dates and times.

We encourage civic and residential awareness, appreciation and use of plants and trees in beautifying our community. We support the preservation of the natural environment in St. Albert and District and especially in the Sturgeon River Valley. We arrange tours of Member's Gardens and of commercial Gardens and Nurseries. Twice a year, in Spring and Fall, we hold a Plant Sale and Auction at which members bring in their plants for sale to raise funds for club activities. Most importantly, we give members a chance to meet other gardeners, both inexperienced and experienced, to share their triumphs, disappointments and their problems in a friendly social atmosphere.

Each year our members organize our Summer Show to give an opportunity to display their flowers, fruit, vegetables, flower arranging and culinary skills. All exhibits are judged and prizes are awarded. The show is held at the end of summer in St. Albert Place.

The club also has a Library of gardening books for members to borrow. Please see our website for a listing of books available.

Our membership year starts in January, but new members are welcome to join at all times. Annual membership fees are $20.00 per individual or family (which covers member, spouse and children under 16 years of age); or $10.00 for senior (member 65 years or over and spouse).

Starting in January of 2012, visitors may also attend meetings at a 'drop in' donation of $2.00, except for our annual Spring and Fall plant auctions where there will be NO CHARGE for admission and anyone can attend.
