Review - by Jodi DeLong

In the last number of years many gardeners have ‘gotten into herbs’ both for culinary and medicinal uses and as wonderful accents in garden design. Cape Breton gardener and writer Gardner has compiled her herbal wisdom into one easy-to-use manual on herb growing and uses.

From planting to harvesting, from use in landscaping to creating aromatherapy oils and sharing cooking recipes, Gardner flavours her writing with personal anecdotes and delectable humour as she regales the reader with her accounts of herb farming with her husband Jigs.

If you’ve never thought to turn a car tire inside-out to use as a planting urn, be prepared for this and other wonderful ideas. You may find yourself making angelica candy, creating a herbal knot garden, or finding a new appreciation for dandelions (which are great in salads or as pot greens). Gardner makes herb gardening not so much a profession or avocation as a vital part of her personality.
