Tuscan Treasures in Italy Tour
June 2 – 10th, 2015

June 7th Sunday MT Walking Tour and Tettuccio, Montecatini Alto for Lunch

We are now in Montecatini Terme where you have just woken up in your beautiful Tuscan inspired Prestige room, had your breakfast and now we are ready to enjoy a wonderful and relaxing walking tour of this gorgeous town with our guide. Your hotel is the lovely Grand Hotel Croce di Malta. In a privileged setting, beside the thermal park of Montecatini Terme, in one of the most elegant boulevards and just a short walk from the center, the Grand Hotel Croce di Malta is one of the most prestigious four star "Superior" hotels of the town. The building has recently been renewed: new "Prestige" design rooms with large marble bathrooms equipped with all modern facilities and Free Wifi, a new elegant terrace, two wonderful pools with hydroassage - one outdoor and one indoor with water at 35° heated through solar panels.

Montecatine Terme rests in the bright landscape of the Valdinievole, in the heart of Tuscany. Artistic and natural beauty in its architecture stretching between decadence, art deco and neo-Baroque, it is truly a place where the cultural elite came. Artists and writers were just some of the many who spent time here to rest, study and compose. You will recognize Giuseppe Verdi and Giacomo Puccini…

We will also visit one of the most breathtaking pieces of history…that of the Tettuccio thermal spa. We will just be seeing the beautiful architecture and artwork along with the gardens of Tettuccio, but if you so choose I am sure you can take treatments here as well as you will have the rest of the afternoon and evening on your own (book ahead of time). I was spellbound as I stepped inside to view the Hall of Writing, painted with a series inspired by the themes of youth and joy, and watching as people came to these ornate fonts to get their chosen water…At the entrance is a very impressive shell-shaped fountain with the water gushing out from it. Considered the symbol of the town and its glorious past, Terme Tettuccio is not only the oldest thermal establishment but a true focus of beauty, to such an extent as to receive the name of “Temple of the European Thermal Energy”. Its stateliness and the beauty of its internal decorations represent the highest expression of the thermal architecture in Montecatini. It had been known since 1300 as “Bagno Nuovo” and received its present name from the roof that would cover the mineral water spring.

We will enjoy a Funicolare trip up the hill to Montecatini Alto with its stunning views to reach the upper town (Montecatini Alto) - this is a typical means of transport which in few minutes connects Montecatini Terme with the very charming medieval village Montecatini Alto higher up. Here there is a very nice little square where we will enjoy a lovely and relaxing 3 course lunch.

Afterwards, you are free to enjoy wandering around the area on your own or heading back to the hotel to enjoy the pool.
