GWA Annual Symposium
Valley Forge, PA .
August 25-28, 2006

On the 29th of August I took the optional tour of three private gardens plus The Rodale Organic Farm and Research Center. We got into these wonderful wagons and had a tour through the fields, saw a fantastic machine they had built for making compost, and toured the test gardens to see some very tasty looking veggies. Then it was over to Campania International, Inc. Campania International was started in 1984 initially selling terra cotta planters. Shortly after, the company began to research and develop the design and manufacture of cast-stone garden planters and ornaments. Campania also is an importer and wholesaler of garden-related products including polyethylene, terra cotta, glazed pottery, cast-iron and fiberglass planters as well as classic garden structures and cast resin statuary. Our tour included the production shop and three large showrooms and the original mold production through casting, finishing and shipping of the handcrafted garden ornaments, to the final showroom products. It was a good thing that all of these were too heavy to take home!

That’s a wrap! Until 2007 in Oklahoma…on Route 66! If you are interested in becoming a member of the Garden Writers Association, please contact me. I am one of the two Regional Directors for Region 7 – Canada and International.
