Windsor
Castle...the pictures that I have here are of St. Georges Chapel, The State Entrance and
the Round Tower with the Norman Gateway off to the left of it....the restoration after the
fire was complete and it was just incredible to see the end result. Many rooms are open
for our viewing and it takes quite a bit of time to get through it all. The artwork and
painted ceilings, the furniture, the size and grandeur of the rooms...the china museum
displayed china from the 1700's which is still used today for special occasions. The Castle was started in 1080 by William the
Conqueror and has been occupied for over 900 years. St. Georges Chapel with it's Gothic
architecture was built in 1475 to provide a fitting chapel for the Order of the Garter,
founded by King Edward III. St. Georges Chapel belongs to the College of St. George
founded in 1348. A beautiful chapel with many crypts and plates indicating who was buried
there. We had a wonderful view of the size of
Windsor Castle from Eton - we took a walk across the bridge to see Eton College and the
swans that are Royal property.
