Spain Trip Recap
November 11th – 20th, 2014
Bella España – Beautiful Spain!

November 18th

Sagrada Familia a Gothic and Art Nouveau masterpiece, started in 1882 then Gaudi took it over in 1883. Sadly he was killed when hit by a tram in 1926 and to this day it is still being worked on, they say mid century it should be complete although they are trying for 2026. It is simply extraordinary and you either will like it or not. I loved it. Even though rather complicated outside, inside it was pure peace and serenity and such colours floated around you from the stained glass it was breathtaking. I think this one is my favourite photo because it captures the sun hitting the stained glass and emitting such beautiful rays of colour inside to bounce off the ceiling...totally ethereal to me.

This set of doors is covered with flowers, leaves and all kinds of bugs. There are at least three sets of doors that are all unique. The colours outside are just so magical against the grey of the stone. I was up in one of the towers so got some pretty close photos but up there, there is a huge amount of work going on so a lot is covered and protected.
What was also really really interesting was the museum/workshops under the church. They are actually working on the sculptures here, and its only a few yards away from where Gaudi worked. He even towards the end of this life lived in the workshop.

In 1997, the Palau de la Música Catalana was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. I can see why...an architectural jewel of Catalan Art Nouveau. A magical music box which brings together all the decorative arts: sculpture, mosaic, stained glass and ironwork.

There you go…hope you enjoyed going through my memories and will join me in 2016 to make your own. It will be a small group filled with a lot of the above and more!
