Chelsea Flower Show Tour 2009
May 19th - 27th, 2009
Monday May
18th, Press Day at Chelsea
I have been taking groups over to this exciting show since 1998 and never
have had the opportunity to be at Press Day – the tours just didn’t work
time wise, but this year I actually got to attend and wow…what a treat. The
champagne flowed as we toured the show gardens, met the hoi polloi, like Rod
Stewart and got to taste such delights as cupcakes with rose icing. It is
very hard to get a press day pass. Only a few do so I counted myself as
extremely fortunate to be able to see what Chelsea is like on Press Day.
Suzanne is standing there without her Gold Medal (she is shown on May 21st
with it). She is a good friend of mine and is the head designer for the
Grenada display. We always set a time so that the group can come and meet
her and ask her questions about what putting a Gold Medal display is all
about.
After Chelsea I and another friend set off for Afternoon Tea at Yauatcha.
This is where east meets west and I have to tell you that this was an
Afternoon Tea I shall never forget. We were seated and asked if we wanted
tea, just regular English tea because we were parched so minutes later this
pot arrives and it was wonderful. So satisfying and with that we could
really enjoy this experience. With an Afternoon Tea such as this, you must
have the appropriate tea. We were served Classical Beauty tea to go with our
food. Delightful, Taiwan tea with no bitter after taste and a hint of
flowers. The tea is so worth enjoying so I hope you can get there and
experience it yourself. The flavours of the tiny dimsum, the fresh fruits,
the scones and jams and of course the sweets…you have not tasted anything
like this before…go and prove me wrong! On your way out be sure to take home
some more sweets and tea.
