Royal Caribbean Cruise

We can see Santa Marta from the ship at 6:45 a.m. and should be there and docked by 8. Ocean was choppy last night – this was the first time in 3 cruises that we remember it being choppy. Usually it was just the first night sailing that was a bit rough, but here we are…nestled up against the dock. It always is amazing to me how quietly and with such ease these huge ships can maneuver themselves, with the help of the pilot of course into their area.

The port here has a very interesting company that ships coal and it is right in front of us as we dock. You would think a lot of dust but there are really careful and have lots of trucks wetting the coal as it moves. Now what is so cool is the trucks bringing the coat to the shipping area. They back into a machine that completely lifts both the cab and the container holding the coal so that the back opens and the coal slips out. I guess there have been some concerns about this mining company, but there it is. On this trip we are facing the coal plant but on previous trips we faced the city. I expect it will be the same on the 2012 cruise as we have the same room again. The blue machine takes the coal and moves it to the cargo ships. You can even see the coal being dumped on the huge pile. I also took a picture of a truck tipped up so you can see what I mean.

Didn’t even go into Santa Marta today..we had before and truthfully not a whole lot there to interest us so just spent a lazy day doing nothing.

At 4 p.m. we set off to Aruba, it was a quiet day for us. As we sail to Aruba we are sitting on the balcony enjoying a drink. Tom is reading his kindle and I am just enjoying the ride. There is something to be said about sitting out on your own balcony in a fluffy white robe just chillin…spotted a school of dolphins…life is good and restful. We all need that. Can hear piano music in the background and the sun is setting.

Tonight formal dinner and was it good! Tom had escargot and beef and I had lobster bisque and shrimp ravioli and we both had chocolate soufflé. Then went to the show.
