Our Ontario Trip
plus
Communities in Bloom Symposium
2003
Getting
to Stratford proved a bit daunting as the signage in Ontario overall is
really quite bad – you must have a good map with you. We did make it and got
settled into our hotel at Victorian Park Inn then went to get registered.
The
City of Stratford put on a wonderful symposium with great speakers. Saturday
morning we gathered in our finery at the Stratford Festival Theatre for the
National Awards Ceremony on the stage of the ‘King and I’. You can see all
the winners listed on the Communities in Bloom website at
http://www.communitiesinbloom.ca/ and see some of the pictures we took
while there here. You have to be there to experience the joy these people
have when they name is called…they have worked hard to get here and this is
the feather in their cap. Community involvement is what this is all about.
We
were treated to a special performance by Stratford resident, Loreena
McKennitt and the MC for the morning was none other that Stratford’s own
Lloyd Robertson of CTV.
These
pictures include the winners, Loreena, the King & I stage, the huge silent
auction and finally some pictures of the gardens in front of the Festival
Theatre.
Next
year this will take place in Charlottetwon PEI and the year after in
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
After
this, it was back to the room and then a little shopping in Stratford. Our
last evening here was special … a great meal and band and draws for all
kinds of prizes. Another year over and I know participants are already
talking about next year.
These
pictures are taken at Shakespeare’s Garden in Stratford. The tower is what
remains of an old woolen mill, the black swan does not look too happy with
Tom being so close!, then the final dinner for the symposium
