A
quick stop to visit Yvonne Cunnington and her lovely garden – her husband
had just completed this rock garden and was very pleased with the way it had
turned out…we were too! Some of the plants they sell to tour groups coming
through, Tom and Yvonne looking at this huge spider I took a close up of,
and pots of grasses and succulents on Yvonne’s front step.
From
here we drove to St. Catherines where we were staying for the night at the
Ridley Gate Manor B & B. This beautiful 3 room B & B is owned by Peter and
Teresa Kellett and you can reach them at
ridleygatemanorbb@sympatico.ca
They
do not have a website, but take this as a recommendation, they are a B & B
that you must stay at if you are in the area. It is just a short drive to
Shaw and Niagara Falls. The manor was built in 1918 to house the headmaster
of Ridley College and Peter and Teresa spent much time in choosing just the
perfect place for their B & B. The restoration and décor of this unique and
historic home was under the direction of award winning designer John Kazmir
of Studio 76. Each of the three rooms is so comfortable and inviting – we
show you pictures of the three rooms so you can see for yourself. We stayed
in the Golden Suite with the four poster bed. With nibblies awaiting us when
we arrived and a chilled bottle of wine in our room, it was truly a soothing
experience.
After
a quick bite to eat and a hot cup of tea we were off to Niagara-On-The-Lake
to watch ‘The Royal Family’ at the Festival Theatre. This was a fantastic
play with two intermissions and well worth seeing. Thank you to Odette
Yazbeck from the Shaw Festival. The Shaw Festival has just released their
2004 Season. Tickets for 2004 will go on sale to members on November 19th
and the public January 10th, 2004.

After
a wonderful breakfast with Peter, Cheryl and Teresa we took our leave to
head to Niagara Falls.
Thank
you to Peter and Teresa for their wonderful hospitality, and to Cheryl from
Tuxedo Tours who arranged the B & B and theatre tickets for us. You can
reach Cheryl through their site at

What
a beautiful day we had as we headed towards Niagara Falls. It had been at
least 25 years since I had been there and longer for Tom. We found a place
to park then walked along the wall. This time of year not many tourists to
worry about and the floral beds were all still looking glorious. There was
much we could have done here but we were headed to Stratford and wanted to
get there is good time so after a couple of hours we headed north again.
