PRESS RELEASE

'Yellow Clematis receives Premier Award'

Clematis serratifolia ' Kugotia ' "Golden Tiara"t.m. received the Award of Garden Merit (A.G.M. 2002 ) from England's Royal Horticultural Society.

The Royal Horticultural Society, was founded in 1804 to encourage the science, art and practice of horticulture in all its branches. It is now the world's leading horticultural organization with extremely active science and educational departments based at RHS Garden, Wisley.

With over 100,000 plants available in the UK alone, how do you choose and how can you tell which plants are the best for all-round garden value? The RHS Award of Garden Merit (AGM) exists to help gardeners make that choice.

The AGM is the Society's symbol of excellence given to plants of outstanding garden value. It is awarded only after a period of evaluation, drawing on the knowledge and experience of the Society's plant committees, and assessment takes place in one or more of these ways:

  • After trial at one of the Society's gardens or other venue.
  • Visits to specialist collections.
  • Round-table discussions among committee members and further specialists as necessary.
  • Committees are expected to set a high standard against which every plant is judged and if a plant equals or exceeds the standard it may be recommended for an award.

Besides being one of the highest accolades the Society can give to a garden plant, the AGM is of practical value for the ordinary gardener.
