A friend bought a package of seeds at a Seed Exchange, it says on it "Hybystis" the seed is black and looks like little snails. Anyone ever heard of it? (Everyone, myself included wonders if it is a spelling error and should be Hibiscus)

Does indeed sound like Hibiscus...perennial Hibiscus, not the house plant variety. I've got some of those seeds, and the description fits the bill. If in doubt, plant some up and see what appears! Good luck!
