This is a continuation of 'overwintering crocosmia'. I have potted up acidenthra and crocosmia 2 weeks ago in 5 to 6 inch pots, 5 per pot. They are now sending up shoots. Has anyone elso done the same? And what have been your results? I'm hoping to divide them and plant in the garden mid to late May. Thanks.

Sorry Iris, I thought you'd have more luck with your question putting it at this level.

I've got acidanthera started in a somewhat larger pot than yours, with about 9 bulbs. I going to leave them in the pot for the summer so I can move them around. Be aware that you're going to have to lift them in the fall and store them indoors, as they're not supposed to be hardy here. I kept mine in a paper bag with some slightly damp peat moss (dusted with sulfur first). Have you grown them before? I was surprised by their size.... was expecting about them to be 18 inches tall and got 4 feet!

Putting the crocosmia into the garden in May sounds like a really good idea. I'm not sure, however if I'd divide them at this stage as they look more striking as a mass, rather than a few scattered here and there. I found my clump of 'Lucifer' took 2 to 3 years to really fill out.

Enjoy!

Thanks for your advice Nancy. Your one answer is all I needed to confirm what I'm attempting again. I too will mass the 'Lucifer'. Last year my acidanthera were in a large pot and looked amazing. I hope by starting indoors, they will bloom earlier. I also started freesias, for the first time. I'll look for you on other 'forum' sites. I have a feeling we are both trying similar plants. Thank again!
