Last year I planted (spread) seeds for forget-me-nots. This year I have been carefully tending them...but hey, that's not forget-me-nots, it is Dame's Rocket. It is just starting to bloom, which is beautiful. My question is should I leave them to bloom? Are they a beneficial weed?? How invasive are they, as I have quite a number. Should I pull them out after blooming? (I don't know what happened to the 2 packets of forget-me-not seeds!!)

Doug,

I have a fair bit of Dame's Rocket, which I haven't found too difficult to control. It only seems to spread by seed where I am (not by root)and stays in a relatively neat clump. I cut off the seed pods after flowering so the seeding isn't too prolific , just yank out the plants I don't want and enjoy the rest.

Thanks. I really like the flower. I have some bad experiences with some really aggressive plants, so it's good to know theres no big fat root running rampant underground.

Dame's Rocket was new to me, but looking up Hesperis, Sweet Rocket find it also known as Dame's- Violet, which I presume is the same plant coming into bloom right now in white, pink and violet. If so, Nancy's description of its habit is as good as it gets. Have also heard it called Early Phlox.
