Mission Statement


The Civic Garden Centre is a volunteer-based, not-for-profit organization whose mission is to act as a central resource for gardening, horticulture and allied environmental issues by encouraging interest, promoting involvement, and gathering, disseminating and interpreting information in order to enhance the quality of life for members of the community.

Courses, Lectures, Workshops and Garden Tours
Want to learn about gardening basics, or are you ready for advanced techniques? How about a ‘quick-fix’ workshop or a peek behind the hedges of public and private gardens in Toronto and Out-of-Town? Whatever your interest, the CGC enriches it year-round in many exciting ways.

Community Projects
From balconies and rooftops to lakeside community gardens, the CGC lends its expertise to projects that foster an awareness and appreciation of gardening and the environment.

The CGC Library
Looking for a particular gardening book? The Civic Garden Centre Library probably has it; if we don’t we’ll help you to locate it. As one of Canada’s finest horticultural libraries with a comprehensive selection of 8,000 books, 70 periodicals, and a large collection of clippings, pamphlets, nursery and seed catalogues, as well as a great selection of children’s gardening books, the CGC Library has something for everyone.

Children and Family Programs
Kids are important at the CGC! Children of all ages can learn about the joys of the natural world in entertaining and educational ways through the programs held year-round at the Centre and in the Teaching Garden in Edwards Gardens.

Horticultural Services
Wondering about how to start a compost pile, or when to prune your apple tree? The CGC staff horticulturists are happy to answer all your gardening questions. Drop by the Centre and check out our other services, such as soil testing, pest diagnosis and plant identification.

Rental Facilities
A magnificent combination of stone and glass blended with the natural features of the park, the Civic Garden Centre comprises 10,000 square feet of useable space. We offer a variety of banquet halls, meeting rooms and show space, perfect for making every kind of function or special occasion memorable.

Art in the Link
As a community service, the CGC offers space in the Link Gallery to local Artists interested in exhibiting their work. Call (416) 397-1349 for details.

Plant Sales
Need a little brightness for that shady corner of the garden? Something perfumed for the front walkway? A little holiday cheer? Check out the CGC’s seasonal plant sales and benefit, too, from the on-site advice of staff horticulturists and Toronto’s Master Gardeners.

Tours of Edwards Gardens
Edwards Gardens is one of Toronto’s number one parks. Our knowledgeable volunteers will guide you through 35 acres of spectacular hands-on gardens, meandering streams and rolling lawns amidst a natural woodland setting, making your stroll in the park a memorable experience.

The Trellis Shop
The perfect gift for the gardening enthusiast is waiting for you at the Trellis Shop. A terrific source for gardening and horticultural books for all ages, floral art supplies, garden decor, clothes, hats, accessories, and unique gifts for every nature lover.
